Should I fix my old equipment or invest in new?

This is one of the most common questions we are asked when called out for service and need to repair older equipment.  And the honest answer is a simple one:  It depends.  There are a lot of variables that need to be considered when making any decision, and whether or not to purchase a new heating or cooling system  is no different.

The reality is that most people only think about their heating and cooling systems when they are not working.  The rest of the time we just set our thermostats to where we feel comfortable and expect that our equipment will take care of the rest.  And the truth is, it should.

Other than some basic, periodic maintenance, your HVAC systems should be relatively self sufficient and be able to meet a multitude of needs and personal preferences at any given time and during any season of the year.  If, of course, the system was properly designed and installed in the first place.

Which leads to some important questions that you should be asking and answering when trying to decide on investing in a new heating and cooling system.  For example:

  • How much more do you want to spend repairing an outdated, inefficient system?
  • How happy have you been with the overall performance of your current system?
  • Does it meet all of your needs in all of the rooms in your home or just some of them?
  • What about hot and humid summer vs. cold and dry winter temperature control?
  • How long do you plan on staying in your current home?
  • Are you planning any additions or remodeling in the near future?
  • How much are your current utility costs and maintenance bills?
  • Does your current equipment have any kind of parts or labor warranty?

We can help you answer all of these questions and many more with a free, in-home estimate and complete system evaluation.  If either your heating or your cooling systems, or both, are more than 10 years old, you could be missing out on substantial energy savings and even some new tax rebates that could literally pay you back the cost of your new system in less time than you may realize.  And if real comfort, healthy indoor air quality, and true piece of mind mean anything to you and your family, your new HVAC system could become even more valuable to you now, and for many years to come.
